Question: Does ISED Canada have specific procedures for obtaining equipment authorization for software-defined radios, similar to the FCC Pre-Approval Guidance (PAG) requirement?

Answer: ISED has no procedures specific to software-defined radios (SDR). They are treated as any other radio device, subject to the relevant standard. The full capabilities of the SDR are required to be tested and certified with ISED, after which the manufacturer is permitted to sell the device only as it was approved, with features fully enabled or some disabled.
